Bylaws of the Northwest Cook County Green Party
Article I. Name, Description and Purpose
1.1 - Name
The name of this organization shall be the Northwest Cook County Green Party.
1.2 - Geographic Area
The Northwest Cook County Green Party shall have a primary geographic area defined as the four Northwestern townships of Cook County, Illinois: Barrington, Hanover, Palatine, and Schaumburg.
1.3 - Purpose
The purpose of the Northwest Cook County Green Party shall be to work toward a just and sustainable Green society, committed to the Ten Key Values of the Green Party: Ecological Wisdom, Community-based Economics, Social Justice, Feminism, Grassroots Democracy, Respect for Diversity, Non-violence, Personal and Global Responsibility, Decentralization, and Future Focus.
1.4 - Activities
The Northwest Cook County Green Party shall work in support of local candidates who embody the Ten Key Values; work to build a more just and representative political system through electoral reforms, such as proportional representation and instant runoff voting; and work in coalition with others for social planning and political change, including, but not limited to, grassroots community groups and progressive local businesses.
Article II. Membership and Participation
2.1 - Non-Discrimination
The Northwest Cook County Green Party is open to anyone, regardless of age, race, color, national origin, spiritual belief, gender, sexual orientation, or physical challenge.
2.2 - Definition of Membership
The Northwest Cook County Green Party shall be comprised of those individuals who are members of the Illinois Green Party as specified by Illinois Green Party bylaws, and who are also residents of the primary geographic area defined by these bylaws.
2.3 - Membership Meetings
The Northwest Cook County Green Party shall hold membership meetings at least ten times annually. These meetings shall be open to all members. Notice of all meetings shall be emailed to members, and be made available to the public by other means as deemed feasible. Notice of meetings must be transmitted at least 14 days in advance.
2.4 - Decision-Making
The Northwest Cook County Green Party shall seek consensus on all decisions. When consensus cannot be reached, decisions shall be made by simple majority vote, unless otherwise specified by these bylaws. Substantive decisions cannot be made unless there is a quorum constituted by at least four members in good-standing present at a membership meeting.
Article III. Amendments
3.1 - Amendments
Amendments to these bylaws may be adopted by a two-thirds super-majority vote conducted during a general membership meeting, and only when notice that a bylaws change will be considered has been announced at least 14 days in advance.
